‘Discrete’ means separate or existing independently. For example:

·         The family now has two discrete enterprises, each one operated separately by the two brothers.

‘Discreet’ means to be careful to not cause embarrassment or attract too much attention. For example:

·         It was a discreet affair. They quietly settled the dispute among themselves.
