Learn English through Kannada

Kannada is spoken by about 40 million people and is among the top 40 languages in the world in terms of the number of native speakers. It is the official language of the state of Karnataka in India.

There has been a growing demand for spoken English improvement among Kannada speakers. This has been fuelled by the growth in the information technology industry and the entry of multinational companies in India. A good command of the English language is seen as the key to career progress.

Learning English from a vernacular language is always tricky. English learners have a tendency to literally translate words and phrases from their mother tongue to English.

Consider the following examples:

ನನ್ನ ಹೆಸರು ಪವನ್ ಆಗಿದೆ My name Pawan is
ನಾನು ಮೈಸೂರು ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ I Mysore live

As you can see, translating words from Kannada to English can often lead to grammatically incorrect and unclear sentences. At EnglishLeap, we believe that such literal translations are not the correct way to learn English. A more holistic approach to language learning is required. Our courses helps learners improve their vocabulary, grammar, listening, writing and speaking skills. This methodology has been verified to be effective and we hope to continue to help Kannada speakers become fluent English speakers.
